Making a "Parts of" Book

Visual Discrimination 

 

Material:

  • Set of nomenclature cards where a single part is colored in red and labeled below.

  • Black outlines of the pictures for children to color and label.

  • Color pencils to match the picture(s) on the cards and a red pencil.

  • Writing board.

 

Presentation: 

  1. Present the puzzle as shown in the puzzle presentation.  
  2. Layout all cards as in nomenclature cards lesson 
  3. Get a red pencil, writing board and an outline paper.
  4. Point to the first picture and the part colored in red.
  5. Say: “I am going to make a picture of the head.”  Color in only the head.

      5. Continue with all the cards.

      6. Copy the label and place the finished paper on top of the model. 

  1. Staple the papers together to make a booklet. 
  2. Read the booklet. 
  3. Replace all parts appropriately.

Purpose:

  - Develop visual sense.

  - Presentation of reading and writing.

   -Preparation for skimming and scanning 

   -To look at an entire picture and focus on one part. 

Control or error:

   -The child's eye. 

   - One match for each picture. 

Age:

4 years and older.
