Nomenclature cards Lesson

Visual Discrimination

Material: 

  -Rug

  -Nomenclature Cards 

Presentation 1:

  1. Roll out a rug.
  2. Identify the activity on the shelf and name it.
  3. Carry the work to the rug and place it in the bottom right hand corner.
  4. Remove the first card and name it.
  5. Place it in the top left corner.
  6. Remove the second card and compare it to the first. Say: “We are looking for the one that is the same, the one that matches.”
  7. Place it under the first card.
  8. Continue with all cards containing pictures and labels. If you need more space, place your hand next to the card and say ”We need to leave a space for the matching cards.” Place the next row of cards to the right of that space.
  9. Remove the first card containing a picture only and compare it to the first picture and label card. If it matches leave it there. If not, move it down until a match is found.
  10. Continue with all picture cards.
  11. Remove the first label card.
  12. Compare it to the label part of the first picture/label card
  13. If it is the same, leave it there. If it is not the same, compare it to each card until a
    match is found.

    14. Continue with each label card until all are matched

  1. Return all cards to the basket. Picture/label cards are together, in random order, picture only cards are together, and word cards are together

 

 

 

Purpose:

  • Training the eye to see differences

  • preparation for reading

  • to be able to match identical pictures and

    words

Control of error: 

      -The child's eye.

      -Each set of cards (pic and name, picture only and name only) forms a 

        rectangle. 

      -A match for each picture and word. 

Age:

        3 1/2 years and older
